JASON STEIN, DIRECTOR – MODERN DECORATIVE ART & DESIGN, BONHAMS LOS ANGELES
For many years, I’ve been manifesting a desire to curate a room of beautiful art and design objects for an auction house. A few weeks ago, Jason Stein (Director – Modern Decorative Art & Design at Bonhams Los Angeles), made that dream a reality. My challenge was to curate a room filled with my favorite 20 lots from over 400 items in the sale. The October 27th ‘Modern Design | Art’ auction includes pieces spanning from the early 1900s to present day and ranging in style from stark, modern design to high-style Hollywood, and mid-century treasures to Arts and Crafts furniture. To learn more, email me or register to preview the sale which will showcase the best of modern design in a setting that reflects how we live today. The sale will be on public view at Bonhams Los Angeles starting October 23, with the auction to be held Sunday, October 27 at 10 am.
Twenty of my favorite lots for my curated room are shown below and include a 1940s commode by Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988) and Jacques Adnet (1900-1984), the large wool rug by Sam Francis (1923-1994), a Macchia glass bowl by Dale Chihuly (Born 1941), a bronze bush sculpture from Harry Bertoia (1915-1978), two 1982 paintings by Robert Natkin, a pair of sterling silver serving bowls by Georg Jensen (1915-1932), an exquisite pair of sterling silver candelabra’s (1915-1932) by Georg Jensen, an impressive 1950s teak Papa Bear Chair and ottoman by Hans J.
